Holy Saturday A.D. 2016

Holy Saturday is the last day of the Sacred Triduum, the final day the Church observes in silence and recollection as a prelude to the great joy and exultation in the Resurrection of the Lord. On Holy Saturday, we spend our hours by the tomb of the Lord, Who died for us. On Holy Saturday, the Vigil of Easter was celebrated in new chapel of the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in the Diocese of Cubao. Assisting were members of the Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancti Ioseph – Una Voce Philippines.

As last year, assuming no classical Easter Vigil was celebrated in Palau, New Zealand, Guam, and Japan, this Easter Vigil would be the first not only in the Philippines but also throughout Christendom in the whole world. This Vigil lasted thirty minutes shy of five hours.

The ceremonies began with the blessing of the new fire.

Amen.

Good Friday A.D. 2016

Good Friday is the second day of the Sacred Triduum, when we celebrate the Passion and Death of our Lord on the Cross, by which He reconciled the world unto Himself, having washed its sin in the waves of His Most Precious Blood. It falls on 25 March this year, the date traditionally held to be the actual date of death of the Lord, also coinciding with His Conception (the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin. The ceremonies of Good Friday were celebrated in the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in the Diocese of Cubao. Assisting were members of the Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancti Ioseph – Una Voce Philippines.

The Liturgy begins with a humicubation.

At the chanting of the prophecy and lesson, and their tracts.
Propter hoc dolávi in prophétis, occídi eos in verbis oris mei : et iudícia tua quasi lux egrediéntur.
Ne tradas me a desidério meo peccatóri : cogitavérunt advérsus me : ne derelínquas me, ne umquam exalténtur.

At the chanting and reading of the Passion narrative.

After the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John, the great orations followed.

Maundy Thursday A.D. 2016

Maundy Thursday falls on 24 March this year. On the first day of the Sacred Triduum, we celebrate the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist by our Lord Jesus Christ, and the mandatummaundy or mandy in English—wherein the Lord and Master humbled Himself into washing the feet of His Apostles that they may also wash each other’s feet. On this day, Mass was sung in the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in the Diocese of Cubao. Assisting were members of the Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancti Ioseph – Una Voce Philippines.

At the Gospel.

At the Consecration.

At the distribution of Holy Communion.
Corpus Dómini nostri Iesu Christi custódiet ánimam tuam in vitam aetérnam.

After the dismissal, the Blessed Sacrament was reposed in the monumento, the common name by which the altar of repose or the sepulchre is called in the Philippines.
Pange, lingua, gloriósi
Córporis mystérium,
Sanguinísque pretiósi,
Quem in mundi prétium
Fructus ventris generósi
Rex effúdit géntium.

Tantum ergo Sacraméntum
Venerémur cérnui :
Et antíquum documéntum
Novo cedat rítui :
Præstet fides suppleméntum
Sénsuum deféctui.
Genitóri, Genitóque
Laus et jubilátio,
Salus, honor, virtus quoque
Sit et benedíctio :
Procedénti ab utróque
Compar sit laudátio.
Amen.

After the reposition of the Blessed Sacrament, vespers were recited at once.
O Dómine, quia ego servus tuus : ego servus tuus, et fílius ancíllae tuae.

In the evening, the altars were stripped.
Deus, Deus meus, réspice in me : quare me dereliquísti ? longe a salúte mea verba delictórum meórum.

Ut in omnibus laudetur Dominus.

Tinieblas for Maundy Thursday A.D. 2016

The Office of DarknessOfficium Tenebrarum or Officium Tenebrarum in Latin—comprises the offices of matins and lauds traditionally sung or recited in the evening for the last three days of Holy Week, what we call the Sacred Triduum. In the Philippines, this office is called in its Spanish name, tinieblas, which has also lent its name, at least in some localities, to the large wooden clapper installed in the belfries of those times, more widely known as matracas, apparently because when the time of the customary noise was come, the belfry clapper was also sounded. The tinieblas are sung at the new chapel of the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in the Diocese of Cubao by members of the Cappella Gregoriana Sanctae Caeciliae olim Xicatunensis at 6:00 in the evening

As last year, the tenebrario, what we call in Latin as the candelabrum triangulum and in English as the tenebrae hearse, holding fifteen sockets for support fifteen candles, and the Lectionarium tenebrale pro Tridui Sacri matutinis proper to the schola singing the tinieblas, containing the notations of all the lessons sung during the office, were used. At the end of the offices, only the topmost candle remains lit.

Ut in omnibus laudetur Dominus.
