On Sunday, feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 2 February 2014, candles were blessed before Mass at the Parish of the Holy Family in the Diocese of Cubao. In the Philippines, as in many parts of the world, this feast of the Blessed Virgin is known under the invocation of Our Lady of Candles, in Spanish, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, and the feast itself, as well as the candles blessed on this day, is called Candelaria. Serving in the Liturgy are members of the Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancti Joseph – Una Voce Philippines.
Before Mass, Reverend Father Michell Joe B. Zerrudo blessed candles at the side altar of the church, according to the rubrics in the Missal.
Incense was imposed on the thurible, and the candles were thrice sprinkled with holy water, and then thrice incensed.
After the blessing of the candles, Father Zerrudo distributed them to those present. The choir sang the canticle of Simeon during the distribution.
After the collect, the procession took place in the usual order. The candles were first lit.
The short procession started from the oratory and exited the church, …
… and then returned to the church for the Mass.
After the procession, Mass began at once.
At the Epistle
At the Gospel, the candles were enkindled, as in the rubrics.
Through the entire Canon, the candles were also held lit. At the elevation of the Body of Christ
At the elevation of the Blood of Christ
At the distribution of Holy Communion
At the dismissal
At the final blessing
